My vinyl weekly calendar

My vinyl weekly calendar

Each day, its mood and its vinyls

Here is a musical panorama of the 7 days of the week, with assorted play-list and mood-board, + our TOP 7 of our vinyl weekly agenda.

Days close to the weekend constitute a great source of inspiration for musicians. Sundays, Saturdays, Fridays, Mondays are obviously more popular than Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays. They provide more songs, more personalized lyrics. This is what our short survey shows.

"Tuesday's gray and Wednesday too
Thursday I don't care about you"

From Friday, I'm in love by The Cure

Monday, synonymous for Blues

Monday is undoubtedly one of the most inspiring day of the week after SUnday and Saturday. It's THE painful day of efforts. Back to work, back to heavy-duty routine, you need the energy that you no longer have in store. This is the dreaded day, the after-party time depression, a sort of bankruptcy of love and hope, when the meaning of life is nowhere to be seen... Feeling down feeds the creativity of many an artist.

Monday, a harvest of songs for a dreaded day  ...

Blue Monday par New Order, genre on ressasse ses relations amoureuses

"How does it feel to treat me like you do?"

"I wish it was Sunday"

Monday Monday par The Mamas and the Papas, la rupture est consommée

"How should I feel today?

How could you leave and not take me?"

I Don't Like Mondays par The Boomtown Rats, ou faut-il tuer les Lundis?

"I don't like Mondays

I want to shoot the whole day down."

Tuesday, the mood is still down-bit...

Low tide mood. Love affairs don't look so good.

Tuesday by itself is not inspiring, it's used as the background of a finishing lovestory

Ruby Tuesday by The Rolling Stones, Tuesday girl is already a souvenir.

"Who could hang a name on you?

Still I'm gonna miss you"

Tuesday Morning by The Pogues, about dead love.

"I knew that you...

would be dreaming of me

lying with you on a Tuesday morning"

Love you 'till Tuesday by David Bowie, Tuesday as a love dead-line.

"Ohh, beautiful baby
I was very lonely till I met you on Sunday
My passion's never-ending and I'll love you till Tuesday"

Wesnesday, Happy Hump Day, the weekend gets closer

In the United States, the working week is perceived as a mountain. Wednesday is the day where the peak is happily reached. The rest of the week is a slope, one slides down to the weekend. Despite this, some continue to sink deep into the blues, because Wednesday night can be fatal for love stories...

(April) Spring, Summer and Wednesdays by Status Quo

"I am the feathers in her pillow
Anywhere I hide, she knows, I know"

Wednesday Evening Blues by John Lee Hooker, how she left me

"She left me that Wednesday evenin'

She left me on my bended knee"

Wednesday Week by The Undertones, again, she left...

"Here she comes to say good night
I'll get no sleep tonight
With a constant vision she still can see
She was the girl for me"

Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. by Simon & Garfunkel, the opposite can happen, he left her

"with the first light of dawn

I'll be leaving"

Thursday, hope is reborn, love resumes...

On Thursday, one can find love and may keep it until the weekend, or even during the weekend for the most optimistic. Happy go lucky...

Thursday by Pet Shop Boys

"Let's start it tonight, babe
Stay with me for the weekend
It's thursday night
Let's get it right"

Suite Thursday by Duke Ellington et Billy Strayhorn

Thursday by Country Joe & The Fish

"I found you"

Exhilarating Friday...

On Friday, every option is open onto the weekend. Freedom, Love, Party...

Friday stands at the interface between the difficult days (those of the week) and the idealized days of the weekend. Therefore Friday sort-of becomes the best day of the week, as it bears all the hopes one has for the weekend.

On top of this, accross the ocean, Friday is Pay-Day as well, increasing the rate of feel-good songs...

The legend of the Friday's Child relates that Friday's children are loving, generous, however difficult their life path. Many songs take up this theme and urge the Friday's child to keep on going bravely.

The favorite day of many an artist ...

Friday I’m in Love  by The Cure

"Monday you can fall apart
Tuesday Wednesday break my heart
Oh, Thursday doesn't even start
It's Friday I'm in love

Saturday wait
And Sunday always comes too late"

Friday  by J.J. Cale

"Monday morning comes too early
Work my back to the bone
All day
Monday I keep thinking
"Weekend's coming, gonna go home"
Tuesday I hate, oh Tuesday
Ain't no girls on the streets
Tuesday it ain't good for nothing
Drinking beer and watching TV
Friday, Friday evening
Come on Friday, it's been too long
Friday, Friday evening
Come on Friday, I want to go home
Wednesday's hump day, hump day's Wednesday
Over the hump, the week's half-gone
If I had my pay on Wednesday I'd hang out, the hump day's gone
Thursday, you know I feel better
I can see the end in sight
Think I'll write myself a letter
Help myself through the night"

Friday by Joe Jackson

"She don't need to fight it
She don't care no more
She gets paid on Friday"

Friday's Child  by Nancy Sinatra

"Friday's child, hard luck is her brother
Friday's child, her sister's misery
Friday's child, her daddy they call hard times
Friday's child, that's me"

Friday on my Mind by The Easy Beats

"Tonight I'll spend my bread, tonight
I'll lose my head, tonight
I've got to get to night
Monday I'll have Friday on my mind"

You may know the   David Bowie's version

Saturday night, everything might happen

Saturday night is THE night expected to fulfill all wishes. Love, fun, etc... It is also the night of excesses, fights or even killings.

Saturday is almost never celebrated through its day light facet, except by Ricky Lee Jones...

"Waiting
For the telephone to ring"

"Mr. Saturday night special
Got a barrel that's blue and cold
Ain't good for nothin'
But put a man six feet in a hole"

Someday I'll Be Saturday Night  par Bon Jovi, la mood idéale

"I'm feelin' like a Monday, but someday I'll be Saturday night"

Get a little action in"

"Get prepared, there's gonna be a party tonight.

Huh, Hey! Saturday Night!"

"Saturday nights, your works shoes are stilettos
Smell of cheap perfume
Makeup on your face, try to hide the pain"

(Looking For) The Heart Of Saturday Night  par Tom Waits, le samedii soir, la nuit a-t-elle un coeur ?

"Well you gassed her up
And you're behind the wheel
With your arm around your sweet one
In your Oldsmobile
Barrellin' down the boulevard
You're lookin' for the heart of Saturday night"

On Saturday Afternoons par Rickie Lee Jones, l'exception diurne

"When everyday now secrets end"

Sunday, cooling down...

It is a day to stay in bed or at least at home. A sort of parenthesis in-between cocooning and day-dreaming, a day of rest squizzed between two quite real hard-working weeks. Songs most often focus on a Sunday afternoon stage.

Of course, there are numerous exceptions and some even fall back into depression before Dreaded Monday!

Sunday sounds like intimacy, except for the historical exception of U2

Sunday by Iggy Pop, spends Sunday at home, with a rough sound, jungle like beats, a marvellous guitare to support the voice of the iconic star.

"The days roll on and finally Sunday
A Sunday afternoon
I’ve got it all"

Sunday Morning by Nico, introduces a little softness in this world of bullies. You can dive deep back into your feathered pillow

"Sunday morning brings the dawn in
It's just a restless feeling by my side"

Sunday girl by Blondie, keeps on her dynamic weekend mood

"She can't catch up with the working crowd
The weekend mood and she's feeling proud
Live in dreams Sunday girl"

Everyday is like Sunday  by Morrisey, for a punchy Sunday under the spell of Morrissey's voice

"Everyday is like Sunday
Everyday is silent and grey

Hide on the promenade
Etch a postcard :
"How I Dearly Wish I Was Not Here"

Sunday  by Sonic Youth, teenage love.amours adolescentes

"Sunday comes and Sunday goes
Sunday always seems to move so slow "
